Hi there,
How’s it hanging over there? As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I plan to wrap each month up with a kitchen product reco and thanks to travel and summer holidays, our schedule is a little off! But I couldn’t leave ya hanging without a product rec for May, could I? Even if we’ve made our way well into June…
So this week, let’s talk kitchen shoes.
I have an extremely firm no shoe inside the house policy. And honestly, if you’ve walked around New York recently and are still wearing shoes in your house, I urge you to reconsider! I won’t go into serious detail here, after all, this is a food newsletter and I’d hate for you to lose your appetite, but let’s just say there are quite a few people not cleaning up properly after their dogs…or themselves.
That said, standing barefoot for hours in the kitchen can be really hard on the bod, so I also avoid that at all costs. Over the past few years, I’ve found the perfect middle ground: kitchen shoes. Now, this is hardly a novel concept—anyone who spends hours cooking likely has a strong opinion on which shoe is the best to do it in.
Me? I’m a Crocs devotee.
For serious cooking at client’s homes or for a marathon dinner party prep, I opt for my Bistro Pro Literide Clog. They may not be the cutest option on the market, but I love them because they’re extremely light and portable (great for toting to client homes), easy to clean whenever they need it, and above all else, extremely comfortable even after hours of wear.
For more casual cooking jobs or everyday wear around the house, I have a classic white pair that I happened to purchase already loaded with daisy jibbitz (similar, so cute!). White may not be the most practical for cooking purposes, but like their black Bistro Pro counterparts, these shoes clean up incredibly well. I usually just spray them down with my countertop spray and give them a good wipe with a rag and they’re good to go.
And wow, as I’m writing to you, I’m realizing that I live in a Crocs household. My lovely mother in law has been staying with us for a few days, and Quentin’s a standard LiteRide devotee, so he ordered her a cute navy pair. Because we’d hate to make our guests remove their shoes without offering them their own set of Crocs first. Insane? Yes. But everyone here at chez Fresh Erica has incredibly comfy feet and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Finally, if you’re not in the market for a kitchen shoe, I had a client with these padded anti fatigue mats and have a few chef-y friends that swear by them as well. But I plan to stick with my trusty Crocs!
Okay, we’ve covered it. But before I go, don’t forget, if you’re in the market for a delicious week of food and a really fun weekend activity, you can join Abigail and I for our first meal prep class of the summer next weekend! Or sign up for all three summer classes for a big discount :)
Alright, I hope you have a lovely, well-fed week ahead.
With love and a tip of my chef’s hat,
Erica
